FREMONT — Tyrone Lewis was quick to dish off credit for Lincoln North Star’s success Friday night against Fremont.

“The offensive line creates plays for us,” the Gators’ senior running back said. “People may think it is the quarterback, running backs or receivers, but the offensive line works hard and gets the job done.”

The Gators’ line helped Lewis and teammate Michel Mikaya each surpass 100 yards rushing in a 28-7 victory. Lewis finished with 128 yards on 20 carries and scored two touchdowns. Mikaya carried 12 times for 135 yards.

North Star scored on its first two possessions. A four-play, 57-yard drive was capped by Lewis’ 7-yard TD run with 5:22 left in the opening quarter.

After a three-and-out by the Tigers, North Star needed only four plays to strike again. An 18-yard run by Mikaya and a personal-foul penalty against the Tigers helped set up Lewis’ 24-yard touchdown run.

“It’s always good to come right out the blocks and score,” Lewis said. “Our defense did a good job of holding them, for the most part, the rest of the game.”

Early in the second quarter, the Tigers had an opportunity to cut into the Gators’ lead. Sam Pimper   recovered a Mikaya fumble at the North Star 19.

Faced with fourth-and-2 at the 11, Fremont (1-6) elected to go for it. Running back Keith Young was thrown for a 1-yard loss by Blake Hauser.

“Their linebackers are fast and athletic and they create problems,” Fremont coach Kevin Meyer said. “We controlled the line of scrimmage for the first quarter and a half, but we had some breakdowns. After that fumble, we needed to put it in the end zone.”

North Star (6-1) upped its lead to 21-0 when junior Dillon Schrodt hauled in a 37-yard pass from Joe Hartley with :22 left in the first half.

" The defense played a heck of a game! Offensively we had a couple of mistakes, but the defense deserved a shut out.....Thanks tyrone for giving your offensive line some credit because they work the hardest and get the least amount of credit....You guys have a great week of practice because next week's game will be a dog fight.....To the guys on the sidelines, winning is fun so cheer on your teammates as they work hard out there on the field.... "

" I agree with proud gator parent about the way the defense played. I too am glad to see the offensive line getting the credit they so richly deserve. They have done a terrific job all year. Keep up the good work Gators! This has been a fun team to watch and I look forward to the rest of the season. Go getem Gators! "
