OMAHA — The Senate campaign of Democrat Scott Kleeb has new management.

Joe Zepecki, who has served as Kleeb’s spokesman since the end of March, is the new campaign manager. He replaces Jeff Jacobs, who also joined the campaign in March.

Zepecki says Jacobs was hired as a strategist, and the transition was expected. Jacobs says he’ll continue to consult with the campaign and work with Kleeb’s direct mail.

Jacobs’ consulting firm, NextGen Persuasion, is located in Washington.

Zepecki worked with Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd’s presidential campaign before coming to Nebraska.

Kleeb is vying with Republican Mike Johanns for the Senate seat to be vacated by Chuck Hagel, a Republican who isn’t seeking re-election.

" This is not viewed as a positive move; Kleeb should be concentrating his efforts on campaign issues not arranging and rearranging a campaign staff! This is not good! "

" Mr. Kleeb, if you are able to articulate in a genuine fashion a plan and vision to revitalize this country, particularly it's rural areas you will find success. Johanns SHOULD be easy to defeat if you study his record carefully you will find it is filled with failure and unfullfilled promises. You may not be THE ANSWER, but certainly quitter Mikey is NOT. I wish you well in this campaign as this country certainly doesn't need any more folks in office like Johanns and those that support him. Their type have been ruined this country with their greed and treachery. "

" never understood the angle of "quitter Mike." he was appointed Ag Secretary, and then decided to run for the Senate. or are you one of those people that stayed at the same job for 45 years? successful people have options. "

" NextGen Persuasion? So he hires a firm not even from Nebraska to persuade us to vote for him? After all, we would hate to vote for him because of his positions....we need to be persuaded to waste our vote. "

" "Hadrian" hits the nail on the head. Kleeb seems to be taking his direction from out of state interests - - netroots comment-posters, the DNC, and other out-of-staters who don't necessarily have a good read on how Nebraskans think. I would have liked to see Kleeb run against Smith again, but I think out of state interests persuaded him to try for Senate instead. Scott, those of us who would like to see you win would also like to see you get a better read on how Nebraskans think. Stop outsourcing your strategy and just listen to your prospective constituents.
