Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner said a Walton man ignored a pile of brush he was burning in his yard Sunday evening — even after the fire spread to his neighbor’s barn.

Kim May, 55, had a burn permit, but he wasn’t paying attention to a burning pile of brush — he was mowing, Wagner said.

May continued to mow after his neighbor’s barn started on fire, Wagner said.

Someone else called 911, but the barn was destroyed, for a loss of about $1,000, Wagner said.

May was cited on suspicion of violating a burn permit.

" Guess who is going to get a new barn worth considerably more than $1,000 "

" Very well done. IF May wasn't around the fire watching it like the burn permits say, then he should be cited. People just do not understand the importance of following them burn permits. There are so many things that the person has to be aware of. Too bad some small towns around Walton don't start doing the same thing. "
