Deputies in Omaha hotel shooting back on duty
By The Associated Press
OMAHA — Two Douglas County sheriff’s deputies who were involved in a shooting at a downtown Omaha hotel have returned to duty.
Sheriff Tim Dunning said Monday that Mike Smith and Brenda Wheeler are back at work. Smith needed several stitches after Wednesday’s incident.
Authorities have said Smith shot and wounded 32-year-old Jason Galle after Galle hit him with vase. Galle is expected to survive.
Authorities believe they stumbled onto an identity theft ring while investigating a report of a stolen credit card being used at the Courtyard Marriott. Three people have been arrested.
