- We are able to run advertisements in the following file formats: .jpg, .gif, and .swf..
- Multi-slide gif ads are discouraged.
- Flash timelines may repeat once, but then must stop.
- Excessive movement or blinking is not allowed.
- All content must be contained in the dimensions of the ad position.*
* On a case by case basis, JournalStar.com accepts floating, expandable, overlay and other advertisements. Please contact your advertising representative for specific information.
- In order to track clickThrus, Flash ads must include a button with clickTAG code:
on (release) {
if (clickTAG.substr(0,5) == "http:") {
getURL(clickTAG, "_blank");
}
}
* This code should not be changed in any way, or it will not work. The URL where the banner will link is not displayed in the button. The Journal Star will add the URL in later via our banner content management software. Click here for an example of the code properly implemented on a button.
- The button must be on the main timeline in order for the code to properly work. If the button is nested within another movie clip, the code is often not registered by our banner content management software, and the button will not function properly!
- Click-tag code only appears to work with Flash 6 or later. If you publish your .swf in other versions of Flash, you're likely to have functionality issues.
- If you would like your advertisement to link to multiple locations, include the previous code on each button, specifying which clickTAG needs to be called. i.e. getURL(clickTAG2, "_blank");, getURL(clickTAG3, "_blank");, etc.
Please note: There is no clickTAG1. The first button has no number, the second is number 2. Please provide your representative with a list of corresponding URLs. More info may be found at Adobe's website.
- Due to our large at-work audience, sound is not permitted.
- Video with audio may be included, as long as the final file size meets the restrictions listed above. Video may not play until a reader clicks on the advertisement. To better accommodate our at-work audience, it is highly encouraged to have two play options: Play with sound, and Play without sound. Video playtime should not run in excess of 30 seconds. In order to maintain content consistency, video ads must be hosted on our servers.
- All advertising content must be appropriate for readers of all ages and at work viewing.
- Advertisements may not trigger any download.
- Advertisement content may not be misleading, fraudulent, abusive, indecent, or vulgar.
- Advertisements must be clearly identifiable as such, either by a border or the word "advertisement" prominent at the top of the ad at all times.
- Must be a static image.
- Ad can be no more than 15 pixels tall, and no more than 100 pixels wide. Please avoid white space on the edges of the ad - crop the width as close as possible.
- Image should be saved as a .GIF with a transparent background. If possible submit two versions and we'll choose the one that looks the best on our site:
- Save one with a transparency matte color: #336699
- Save one with no transparency matte color.
- Please download and unzip the two files found here.
- In an effort to reduce confusion over how our ad peels work, we’ve whipped up these two templates for the ad peel files to help businesses develop their ad creatives. Each file contains a layer with detailed instructions that can be safely deleted once your creative team has finished developing the ad.
- There’s a third swf that is not included in this .zip file. It is not included because your creative team does not need to do anything with it. This .swf is hosted on our servers and acts as a template file that these two swfs will be loaded into. The third .swf that is hosted on our servers will handle the functionality / animation of the opening / closing of the Ad Peel, so all your creative teams need to be concerned with is the message / appearance of the ad itself. The Ad Peel functionality is already taken care of by our template .swf!
- The large 450x450 .fla already has a button included in the .fla, which shouldn’t be altered. The smaller .fla does not have a button, and should not have a button on it when it is published.
- The framerate for both swfs should be 35 frames per second. If you build it at a slower framerate, it will run much faster than you intended when it appears on our site. This is mentioned in the the files themselves, but is a common mistake, so it's worth mentioning again.
- As mentioned before, the button on the 450x450 .fla should not be altered. When submitting the ads, please include the URL that you would like the ad to link to, and we will insert both the ads and the URL into our ad management software at that time.
- Restaurants and bars must pay for advertisements in advance.
- Advertisements may not contain images, slogans, or any other copyrighted material that the advertiser does not legally own. All copyright responsibilities lie upon the advertiser.
- All advertisements and content created by JournalStar.com staff remain the sole property of JournalStar.com and its partners, and may not be used without written permission other than on JournalStar.com and its affiliated sites.
- We reserve the exclusive right to modify, alter, change, refuse, or cancel any advertisements or content running on any sites for any reason we deem necessary. Such reasons include, but are not limited to, material that is offensive or inappropriate, personal attacks or intolerance of others, visually garish or annoying, overly large (file size), of poor quality, misleading or is illegal, interferes with the presentation of our site to some or all of our readers, is the incorrect size, or contains links to pages, sites or content we deem objectionable.
- Any additions, changes, modifications, or exceptions to the rules may be made at the sole discretion of JournalStar.com management.
- If you have any questions regarding these requirements, please contact your representative or email us.
